Finally a day outside in the shade. It's bee torture not to have the best one walk me. Today she did and nor we're outside again. Life is good.
The summer is officially here. School is out, hot weather here, fishing trips planned and pools open. I like summer thinking. It can be more relaxing to go through a day...or not.
Let me explain. Our home based business relies on a person answering the phones. That's me. I'm always on, whether its summertime or not. Being connected everywhere works for me. I don't have to miss a call if I'm out.
Sometimes I just want to turn off everything, disconnect from phone, news, cell, internet, unplug all electricals, and just chill. I think they call that tent camping with no amenities...! A long time ago it was when tent camping along the Maryland marsh watching great blue herons and fish eagles feed, was fun enough to be worth the work to get there. Maybe my view is skewed.
Those experiences of camping in the rain, in humidity without relief, in the work without compromise others expected of me just wasn't vacation anymore. Now its fun just to chill at home not missing anything except the next shorebird I may be able to catch sight of in the Maryland marshes.
And that summer thinking thought may very well be the one that gets me back to camping.
I get to look at this if I jump up to the table. Not liking jumping so much...eeww. Got a walk earlier in the rain... Fun
Music. Notes with rhythm that soothe the soul. It’s the silence between the notes, between the beats, that reaches me.
As I was driving this morning, I was touched by a beautiful set of notes, beats and lyrics by a famous musician. What was strange to me, is that I remembered reading and hearing not so nice things about this person who makes beautiful soul wrenching music. I thought, how is it, that, someone so grizzly, can create such beauty?
Ahh, a question for the unanswered of the ages! How is it that such great beauty can come from such mediocrity. I think the truth is that inspiration doesn’t have favorites…
Inspiration hits those who are open to it in a moment of time, space, notes, beats and lyrics. Inspired moments go unnoticed by most, so it doesn’t matter what the moral fiber is of the person who happens to be open to it NOW.
Remembering this is why I wrote it down here. I heard that statement from one of Dr. Wayne Dyer’s books, ' target=_blank>10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace that was a turning point in my self-development path. “It is the silence between the notes” that gives music its transformative beauty. And for that silence, I am glad to be open to the beat of the drum, the swoosh of the guitar lick, the lilt of the vocals, for it soothes my soul.
Best for now,
Mary
This question gave rise to my past experience of attempting to follow the path of other's rather than my own: "Have you ever had to manage people at your job? If so, what was the hardest thing about it? If not, would you ever want to manage people?"
It's difficult enough to manage myself, let alone others! I am a firm believer in personal responsibility. That means that what others expect of me, is much less important than what I expect of myself. It also follows that I allow others the freedom of managing their own expectations of themselves. It takes faith to know that all works out for the highest good.
My thoughts for today...

Vic Firth was introduced to me today on the CBS show, Sunday Morning, one of my favorites of the week. As a musician, a drummer, as a solution finder, he sounds like a genius who creatively found how his passion could fuel his life. Mr. Firth purposefully designed a stick that he could use, then accidentally developed drum sticks that were able to expand the ability of all drummers to become better.
Beat your drum is a phrase I really love because it signifies to me power, choice, timing, sticktuitiveness. That is what I remember most about that video magazine story today: Perseverence - You don't just stop beating your drum because the drum sounds less than perfect. You keep at it and practice and work on perfecting the tools you use to create a better sound, product, book, whatever your endeavor is.
Now I can expand my understanding about this phrase and apply it to what I am doing in all areas of my life.
Just honoring the muse today. Poetry is something I wrote long ago, wondering about things. I find myself wondering again. Take what you like, leave the rest. The past few months have been jarring a little.
Feels Like Relief came today as a question without answers, but felt good to put into words. Wonder why that is...
What is it about lights on a tree that soothers?
Why in the middle of a happy time, one feels sadness?
Where is the relief in the shopping madness?
How can we truly express our love for others in our lives?
When is it ok to ignore a deadline and love all the time?
Who turns up their noses at material gifting?
What is the perfect gifts? Unbounded, Untethered
Why is it so elusive to give and receive on the same wavelength?
Where in the world within can one find what show outwardly?
How can I express what i wish without fear of reprisal?
When will freedom ring? true
Who do you think you are? to you, to me, to the world beyond?
What is that elusive light that tinkerbelles around us all the time.
Why is it that pink elephants are so hard to see?
Where can you be free?
How worlds collide to create an expanded universe,
When all within is imploding to expand is a mystery.
Who among us has any answers, let alone right ones?
The Start and the Finish are about the same,
Only expanded and better because of it.
12/25/2008 A day of remembrance and pondering.
Best for now. Mary
